Poker For Women
Poker for women is quite different now than it was in the days of Benny Binion and Nicholas "Nick the Greek" Dandolos back in 1960s Las Vegas. At one point in the history of poker the only time you heard the words poker and woman in the same sentence went something like, "What the hell is that woman doing in our poker room?" As the saying goes, we've come a long way baby.
For years, the world of poker was dominated by men, but in the last 20 years or so, poker for women has made some remarkable advances. Women are winning major tournaments, including WSOP bracelet winners Annie Duke, Barbara Enright and Vanessa Selbst, winner of the WSOP $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha.
Even though women have been playing this once "mans" game and trying to make themselves equals in this world, the WSOP still holds their Ladies No Limit Championship every year. And of course we got some dumbass man invading it every so often. The World Poker Tour is also offering a Ladies Championship game. All things considered, these are still great venues to introduce woman into the vast world of professional poker.
Poker for women has also seen its share of growth at online poker rooms, with some online poker rooms specifically targeting female players, with marketing tactics that are quite feminine and poker rooms that are soft and pretty with girly themes. A recent study done by eCogra, an online gaming industry standards authority, found that woman account for nearly 30% of all online poker players, more than double what it was just four years ago.
